A Chance of a
Ghost

Stories whispered through shadows, memories, and forgotten places.

Step into the haunting world of legends, eerie encounters, and ghostly tales by Kathryne Lopez.

About The Book

Ghosts and Legends of El Paso and Juárez explores the mysterious world that exists along the U.S.–Mexico border. Blending history, folklore, and firsthand accounts, the book takes readers through El Paso and Ciudad Juárez, where the past often feels surprisingly close.

Through true stories and unexplained encounters shared by locals, the author reveals moments where ordinary places become extraordinary. Rather than explaining these experiences, the book preserves them as they were told, allowing readers to decide what is real, what is memory, and what may lie beyond.

More than a collection of ghost stories, this book is a reflection on place, history, memory, and the enduring spirit of a borderland where life, death, and legend often overlap.

About The Author

Kathryne Greaves Lopez was raised speaking English and studied Spanish at the University of New Mexico. After graduation, she moved to Brownsville, Texas, where her fascination with the U.S.–Mexico border began. She later earned a master’s degree in Bilingual/Bicultural Education and has lived in El Paso, Texas, with her husband, Manuel, since 1996.

Inspired by the rich ghost stories shared throughout the border region, Kathryne began collecting local legends and paranormal accounts. In 2002, she published her first book, *Chance of a Ghost*. This revised edition includes additional historical context and research. Kathryne continues to welcome stories from those who have experienced unexplained or ghostly encounters.
